Meet The Team

With a background in public relations, marketing and nonprofit management, April Catarella brings a diverse range of experience to Gambel Communications. As senior director of public relations, she provides strategic counsel and leads public relations and media relations efforts for clients across a variety of industries. She also leads social media strategy for the agency, helping clients navigate an ever-changing digital landscape. April holds certifications from the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) in Modern Digital Communications and Crisis Communications.

An avid sports fan, April began her career in minor league sports, first with the Louisiana IceGators, a minor league hockey team in Lafayette, and later with the Montgomery Biscuits, the Double-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays in Montgomery, Alabama. In those roles, she worked across marketing and communications, including fan entertainment, community relations and social media.

Wanting to return home to New Orleans, April joined the Muscular Dystrophy Association, where she served as executive director for nearly 10 years. Her role included public relations, special events, fundraising and developing relationships throughout Louisiana.

April currently serves on the board of the Press Club of New Orleans. She is a 2025 graduate of the New Orleans Regional Leadership Institute and a member of the Jefferson Chamber Education and Workforce Development Committee. She also serves on the board of the Swollfest Fishing Rodeo, held annually in Grand Isle to benefit children’s charities and military families.

April earned a Bachelor of Arts in mass communication with a concentration in public relations from Louisiana State University.
