Pontchartrain Conservancy to host sixth Storm Aware and Prepare presented by Entergy
The family-friendly event promotes hurricane preparedness resources
NEW ORLEANS — Pontchartrain Conservancy is proud to host the sixth Storm Aware and Prepare event presented by Entergy on Saturday, May 31 at the New Canal Lighthouse from 9 a.m. to noon. This free, family-friendly event will provide free hurricane preparedness resources and supplies for the 2025 hurricane season.
“We’re thrilled to invite our community to the sixth annual Storm Aware and Prepare event,” said Kristi Trail, executive director of Pontchartrain Conservancy. “With the support of our sponsors and partners, this event offers essential resources and expert guidance to help us all better understand the realities of living with and near water, strengthen our preparedness for natural events, and ultimately protect both lives and property."
In addition to hurricane preparedness educational materials and activities, attendees will be given free cleanup supplies provided by Pontchartrain Conservancy to clean neighborhood streets and storm drains. Participants who log their cleanups by taking photos and tagging Pontchartrain Conservancy on Facebook and Instagram will be entered for a chance to win hurricane preparedness items such as solar battery backups. Partner organizations will be onsite to provide information and answer any questions from community members. New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board will have their Mobile Command Center and High-water response vehicles on site.
“Now, and throughout the year, we work around the clock to ensure our customers are storm ready,” said Phillip May, Entergy Louisiana president and CEO. “That’s why we’re proud to partner with the Pontchartrain Conservancy again this year to step beyond the power and get into our communities to help further that message. Louisiana is our home too and we want to see it thrive for generations to come.”
In addition to hurricane prep resources and cleanup information, this family-friendly event will include coastal educational activities for adults and children and free Louisiana wildflower seeds provided by Pontchartrain Conservancy. Meteorologist Scot Pilie’ will give a 10 a.m. hurricane season forecast during the event. Valerie’s Snoballs will also be onsite providing a snowball and hot dog or jambalaya for each attendee.
Additional partners include United Way, Restore the Mississippi River Delta, Second Harvest Food Bank New Orleans and Acadiana, United Way of Southeast Louisiana, New Orleans Health Department, VIET Community Resource Center, and others. Sponsors include Entergy, Citgo/RAE and Chalmette Refining.
