Greater New Orleans Foundation Hopes to Raise $6 Million in its Sixth Annual GiveNOLA Day on May 7, 2019
New Orleans, LA (May 6, 2019) – The sixth annual GiveNOLA Day, an initiative of the Greater New Orleans Foundation (GNOF), will take place on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 from 12:01 a.m. to Midnight, 24-hours later. This is a one-day online giving event for the 13-parish Greater New Orleans region.
“It’s time to GiveNOLA! On May 7th, everyone in the 13-parish region will come together as a community to support our incredible nonprofits who strive to make our region strong and create a vibrant, sustainable and just region for all,” said Greater New Orleans Foundation’s Board Chair Christy Brown.
This year’s goal is to raise at least $6 million for more than 750 local nonprofits in the 13-parish area (Orleans, Jefferson, St. Tammany, St. Bernard, Plaquemines, Lafourche, Terrebonne, Assumption, St. James, St. John the Baptist, St. Charles, Tangipahoa and Washington Parishes). These participating nonprofits work on a broad range of issues, including arts & culture, animals, community improvement, education, environment, health, housing, human services, public safety & crime prevention, and youth development.
“One of the great parts about GiveNOLA Day is that all donations made at GiveNOLA.org go directly to the participating nonprofits,” said Phillip Rice, president and CEO of Entergy Louisiana, the presenting sponsor of GiveNOLA Day. “We’re honored to help lift up and support the incredible array of nonprofits that improve our city and region along with the citizens of our region on May 7!”
Since its inception in 2014, GiveNOLA Day has raised more than $20 million for regional nonprofits. Overall, the majority of gifts are $100 or less, which shows that even small gifts add up to have a huge impact. In 2018, GiveNOLA Day raised $5.6 million in donations for 766 nonprofits, exceeding its 2017 total of $4.9 million. The total number of online contributions exceeded 48,000 at the close of the 24-hour period.
“We value our partnership with the Greater New Orleans Foundation. Working together with GNOF and other local philanthropic organizations, we can make a difference meeting the needs of the community we serve,” said Charles Beasley, president and CEO of Baptist Community Ministries, a GiveNOLA Day sponsor.
